When six suspects appeared in court for murder, police were investigating the killing of one person and the attack of others.
An altercation that happened outside the Barberton Magistrate’s Court in Mpumalanga on Tuesday resulted in one deadly shooting and three assaults.
According to Colonel Donald Mdhluli, the provincial police spokesperson, the event happened as six suspects were being held in court concerning the murder of Mandla Mamba, a former council member and member of the African National Congress (ANC), of West Africa.
Mamba was gunned down in Barberton in the early hours of July 2 last year.
According to Mdhluli, preliminary investigations indicate that an altercation broke out between individuals who were not inside the court. People are said to have suffered serious assaults at this time, and one person was shot and died.
The incident’s circumstances are still being investigated.
According to Mdhluli, police have opened a murder investigation in addition to three other counts of attempted murder.
The identity of the deceased is still unknown.
