A commanding all-round display from Marco Jansen and a maiden ODI century by left-hander Tony de Zorzi guided South Africa to a comfortable seven-wicket win over India in the second ODI on Wednesday. The victory ties the three-match series at 1-1 ahead of Thursday’s decider in Paarl.
Pace bowler Jansen claimed three key wickets as the hosts bowled India out for 211. “It was a tough wicket to bat on,” said Indian captain KL Rahul, who top-scored for his side with 56. “If one of us could have gone on to make a big hundred we could have got 60 runs extra.”
In reply, opener Reeza Hendricks struck 52 while de Zorzi smashed 119 not out from 122 balls to take South Africa home with over seven overs remaining.
Man of the match de Zorzi, playing just his fourth ODI, blasted nine fours and six sixes in the win. “It was a much better all-round performance,” said South Africa skipper Aiden Markram. “To put on a hundred partnerships to set the game up was great.”
The two teams will now face off in Paarl on Thursday for the series decider.
