Maarohanye, better known by his stage name “Jub Jub,” made a brief appearance in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
He faces three charges of rape, two counts of attempted murder, and one act of assault in connection with alleged events that occurred between 2006 and 2009.
One charge was filed following his remarks regarding his former partner, actress Amanda du Pont, during an episode of the well-liked podcast “Podcast and Chill with MacG” in 2021.
In response to Maarohanye’s remarks, Du-Pont revealed to her fans via an Instagram video that she had been sexually assaulted and physically mistreated by Maarohanye during their relationship.
After she posted her video, several women spoke up.
The Uyajola 9/9 presenter surrendered to Brixton police station in July after a warrant for his arrest was issued.
This occurred after Du-Pont and others opened a case against him.
He has already pled not guilty to all of the charges leveled against him.
In July, he was granted R10,000 bail, which has subsequently been extended until his next court appearance.
The case was postponed after the defence requested further particulars from the State.
