Man sentenced for stabbing his partner to death with a broken bottle

Themba Stompana Mahlangu (45) was found guilty of killing his partner and given a life sentence on October 13 by the Mpumalanga High Court.

On October 4, 2022, he attacked Tumelo Maria Mamogale (33). She was then fatally wounded by Mahlangu with a shattered bottle, stabbing her in the neck. The event happened at Extension 108 in Mashishing in the wee hours of October 4 of last year.

“When neighbours heard Mamogale yelling, they rushed to her aid and found Mahlangu beating her in the street,” said Sergeant Cave Dilebo, spokesperson for the Lydenburg police.

They saw her being stabbed, and she later died from her wounds. When they heard her screaming, her neighbours went to investigate. Mahlangu was taken into custody there.

Three neighbours were called as witnesses by Antoinette Nkosi, the state’s attorney. “A post-mortem report confirmed that Mamogale died due to the force of a sharp object entering her neck,” claimed Nkosi.

“She passed away after first going unconscious. According to Monica Nyuswa, a representative for the National Prosecution Authority in Mpumalanga, “a police officer who was there at the site also testified about what he saw there.

During his trial, Mahlangu entered a not-guilty plea. He asserted that four unidentified males attacked them.
