Mozambican national who drowned at Kruger was sent home

After the postmortem was completed today, Thursday, October 5, 2023, the body of a 26-year-old Mozambican national who drowned in the staff village pool in Skukuza, Kruger National Park, on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at around 17:10, was returned to his country.

According to the report Aldimiro Ismail Cossa who was working for a contractor in the park allegedly went to the pool to swim.

The information at police disposal is that Cossa jumped on the deep side of the pool and subsequently drowned. Security personnel were summoned to the scene where the lifeless body of Cossa was retrieved about 20 minutes later.

He was certified dead by medical practitioner on the scene. No foul play is suspected, but police are still conducting an investigation into the drowning.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela warned community members to be extra cautious when visiting pools as the temperatures can be extremely hot. “Parents should not leave children unattended when going out to swim,” she added.
