Taxi driver arrested with suspected heroin at Lebombo border

A male taxi driver, aged 37, from Mozambique, was arrested with about 50 kilograms of suspected drugs (Heroin) at Lebombo Port of Entry in the afternoon of Monday, 04 September 2023 around 13:00.

According to a provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, the police working at the border stopped a Toyota Quantum minibus with Northwest registration plates on Monday afternoon. He said the vehicle, which was transporting some passengers, was searched, as was its trailer.

Members discovered the suspected drugs in the form of powder, concealed inside some plastic containers that were in a trailer pulled by the said kombi. Members used equipment to determine if the substance discovered was indeed drugs, before arresting the driver. The suspect was then charged with dealing in drugs.

He is expected to appear at the Komatipoort Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday facing the said charges.
