Maratab Ali, a 40-year-old foreign national, was arraigned in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s
Court on June 22, 2023, for violating the Tobacco Products Control Act 83 of 1993 and
the Customs & Excise Act 91 of 1964.

This comes after his arrest on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at NADMAD Tradings by the
Nelspruit Serious Organized Crime Investigation Unit during a search and seizure
operation with the help of SARS Customs & Excise agents.

During the operation, the suspect was found in possession of forty-seven cartons of
Remington Gold Blue illicit cigarettes with an estimated value of R11339, 28. Ali was
released on R2000 bail and expected to appear again in court on the 27th of July 2023.
